Many bands in the 60's started to changed music. Rock n' Roll changed from Buddy Holly and Elvis to The Beatles, Jimmy Hendrix, and The Grateful Dead. Their music reflected the radical time of the 60's. That's where my song comes in. This song is called The Revolution by The Beatles. It explains most of the problems were about civil rights, discrimination, and the Cuban Missle crisis and Vietnam war. The civil rights movement was created to help stop those problems.
"You say you want a revolution. Well you know we all want to change the world." These words explain our society today because many people in our world today want to change it for the good or the worse. People want to change the world for good because they want us our world to be a better place because were running out of fossil fuels, the war in Iraq, global warning, pollution, and cutting down the rain forest. And people want to destroy our world because maybe their lives are horrible and they want us to feel how they feel like.
The second way I can connect this is with the character from Small Steps-Kaira. She is a regular teenager trying to live her life at the fullest, but El Genius (step dad/manager) ruins it every time because he decides everything on what Kaira does and she gets no say in this when shes the singer! Well that is until she turns 18, she can do anything she wants because she is concidered an adult. Even though El Genius doesn't want that to happen, he had to accept it. So back to the lyrics when it says "You better free your mind instead but when you go carrying pictures of Charmain Mao, you ain't going to make it with anyone or anyhow.
In conclusion, I've realized how important this song means . Because now a days, most of the songs are about girls, clubs, and things that don't really matter in this world. But this song does talk about things that is important to our society. I've realized that more songs should be more about things that are going on in the world. And it has definitely changed the way I listen to songs.
